Communicator Series no. 13

Doors: 7:30pm
Event: 8pm

Free/RSVP

Communicator Series no.13 abandons the acceptable for the molten consequence of lush illegibility. Reanimate your wreckage with the debut of Los Angeles’ recent poetic arrival imogen smith, alongside platinum-cured performances by K Bradford and Candle Christensen. Tuesday July 8th, 7:30pm at Poetic Research Bureau

As a special also in honor of National Freezer Pop Day, we’re treating you to a body-inclusive fantasy sex toy pop-up by Slurp Toys, hand poured by Revé.

Consider this your cruel summer soft launch.

Communicator Series is a platform for queer and trans* artists whose practice is situated in-between, troubling the boundaries between poetry, archive, performance, activism, and collective intimacies. We're here for work that is switchy, vers, and language-curious, that teases the edges of form as a poetic strategy of becoming otherwise. Attempts, failure, and works-in-progress encouraged.

Candle Christensen is a transcription error posing as PhD student. Their dissertation work proposes a theory of diagonal trans poetics, one which looks askance at questions of representation and sidesteps confession. They teach courses on creative writing and communal living at UCLA and organize ice dyeing workshops in East Hollywood. They are curious about the mutual illegibility that occurs between trans embodied experience and medical terminology, as well as the kinds of accidental prophecy that misinterpretations can generate.

K Bradford (they/them) is an interdisciplinary performer, writer, director, and cultural innovator whose art + social practice activates radical intersectional collectivity and hybrid forms of co-production. K. has performed in and curated gender theater shows, public installations, and assemblage performance works across the U.S. and also toured internationally as a drag king for ten years. They have been awarded scholarships and residencies for their work, including the Bread Loaf Writers Conference, Virginia Center for the Creative Arts, the Atlantic Center for the Arts, the Theatrical Jazz Institute, and Fulbright Scholars Program. Their writing has been published in anthologies and journals such as the LA Review of Books, Gulf Coast, Soap Ear, Viralnet.net, & more. In February, K. launched the Qosmos post-drag spectacle and they are at work on a new full length one-person performance work, Wild Glitch.
