The Poetic Research Bureau presents a night with Kundiman, the national nonprofit organization dedicated to nurturing generations of writers and readers of Asian American literature.
The night's readers include Jessica Abughattas, Alli Cruz and Kien Lam.

Jessica Abughattas is the author of the debut poetry collection Strip, an Etel Adnan Poetry Prize winner. Her poems have appeared in Poetry, The Kenyon Review, Poem-A-Day, The Yale Review, LA Review of Books, and elsewhere. A former poet laureate of Altadena, CA, her lyric essays on post-fire Los Angeles can be found in West Branch and Orion Magazine. She received an MFA from Antioch University and currently serves as Co-Chair for Kundiman’s Southern California regional group.
Alli Cruz (she/her) is a queer & disabled writer of Filipina and Cuban descent. Her poetry and fiction have appeared in Ploughshares, The Los Angeles Review and elsewhere, and her work has been supported by Lambda Literary and the Asian American Writers’ Workshop. Alli holds a BA from Stanford and works in Drama Programming at HBO.
Kien Lam is the author of “Extinction Theory,” winner of the 2021 National Poetry Series, selected by Kyle Dargan and out from the University of Georgia Press. He received his MFA from Indiana University and has received fellowships from Kundiman and the Sewanee Writer’s Conference. Poems have appeared in Poetry, The New Republic, The Nation, and elsewhere.
